About Us

Start-A-Heart is an Ohio based training center that was established in 1999 to assist with continuing education needs of the prehospital care provider located in rural areas and to assist with educating the public on ways to save lives from sudden cardiac arrest.

Everyday we hear of EMS members complaining about the long travel to the larger communities and the cost of continuing education courses required to maintain their certification levels. We also had the same complaints, so instead of adding to the frustration of finding a course and then coming up with the required fees, we found a solution and established Start-A-Heart Training Center.

Not only did we listen to the needs of our EMS providers, we also listened to the needs of the community. Working in the medical field, we hear daily how people are suffering from sudden cardiac arrest in the prime of their lives. Often the victim is a neighbor, a co-worker, friend, or perhaps a family member. According to statistics, one person dies every 2 minutes in the United States of sudden cardiac arrest. Many victims would be alive today if someone had provided immediate CPR and Defibrillation. When a life-threatening emergency occurs, a planned, practiced and efficient response is critical to ensure a positive outcome, until professional medical help arrives. This is where Start-A-Heart can help.

Start-A-Heart has an effective model of training, which is highly interactive, with an emphasis on skills-hands-on training. We know how easily it is to get bored just sitting and listening to a lecture. So we make sure we have demonstrations and hands on skills labs to emphasize the knowledge and provide an improved and fun learning experience.
Our instructors are highly skilled in facilitation and teaching, with expertise in skills training and a range of 10-20 years daily teaching experience.

Our instructors will come to your department or location to provide training
Start-A-Heart is an approved CE provider by the Ohio State EMS Board
Start-A-Heart has submitted an application to the Ohio State Nursing Board to provide CEUs to registered nurses
Start-A-Heart is supervised by Dr. Audry Slane, FMC emergency department physician, to ensure that up to date/accurate information is being given
